My daughter recently said, “I love rainbows!”
I love them too, but I was curious on her 5 year old thoughts of them. “Why do you love them?” She quickly replied, “I just do. They are so beautiful and they have all the colors of the world.”
I agreed….and I continue to agree with her observation of their beauty. My heart also jumps to believing that God keeps His promises. My brain quickly flashes back to hearing the story of the ark and the Flood, as well as the promise that God made to Noah – an everlasting covenant – in Genesis 9:15-16:
“I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
An everlasting covenant….that never ends. It’s a promise that God has kept for thousands of years! A flood hasn’t occurred on the earth since.
“For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations. The LORD always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.” – Ps. 145:13
God is gracious in all that He does. He loved us so much that He had a plan of reconciliation. He didn’t want to be separated from us as sinners. God sent His one and only son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross so that we can have the promise of eternal life in heaven with Him. This promise of eternal life offers so much peace and joy to my life!
Just as I find joy in knowing the earth won’t be covered by water ever again, I have a pure joy and peace in embracing that God always keeps His promises.

Father God, I’m so thankful for who You are. You are unchanging. You are a promise-keeper. Thank you for the beautiful creation and that we can worship You as the Creator through the colors of the created. The tangible reminder of your everlasting covenant every time I see a rainbow points my heart and mind to You and your faithfulness to keep the promise of not sending a flood to cover the earth. Thank you for Your Word that is full of promises that you will never break. The promise of eternal life for those who put their complete trust in Christ is what I’m embracing. Help me to share this joy and promise with someone today!
Your Turn! How have you seen God keep his promises in your life? What promises of His do you hold on to during hard times?
